Prep N Tag Items

Prep your items for sale:

Clothing:

All items must be new or in like new condition. Please have all items/outfits on hangers, facing left. (Like a question mark  ?  ). We will not accept items that are stained, have holes, or are “worn”. We will be checking the items as they come in for the sale and reserve the right to decline any items that might not meet this criteria.

Items that are put together into outfits will sell much better. However, they must be the SAME SIZE. It is certaintly okay to mix and match different brands to make an outfit, but again, please make sure they are the same size. If this is the case, please make sure the price tag indicates they are two different brands. Also, if a size runs smaller/larger than the actual size, please indicate this on the price tag. (For example: Size 4 but wears like a 3). Helpful hint: Oxy Clean and BIZ are great stain removers.

Shoes:

Please bring in only shoes which are like new. Smaller shoes can be placed inside a ziplock bag with the price tag taped to the bag. Do not put tape over the barcode, as this will make it unreadable. Shoes not placed in a ziplock need to be secured together by ribbon, string or zip ties. Clean out any debris from the velcro and check the bottoms for any debris in the treads.

Toys:

Please be sure that all your toys are clean and in working order. If your toy requires batteries, please provide them. People like to see and/or hear what a battery operated toy does before they purchase it. If the toy comes with small pieces, you can place them in a baggie and attach them to the toy. For games, make sure all the pieces are included.

Bouncers, Highchairs, Strollers, etc:

Please make sure these items are clean and in like new condition. If you have the instruction and/or warranty information please be sure to include those. Great tip: If the item is still available and is a high priced item, print out an item description from a retailer online so they can see what a great deal they are receiving.

DVD’s & CD’s:

These items must be in their original packaging.

Books:

You may want to sell a few books together. Place them in a ziplock bag and price accordingly.

Step 2. Print & Tag Your Items

These are some of the supplies you will need to tag your items:

  • Hangers for all clothing (even baby onesies)
  • White or cream card stock paper 60 – 67 lb. ONLY (NO Textured paper and NO regular PAPER – it will rip easily)
  • Safety pins (NO straight pins) or a tagging gun
  • Use clear packing tape only for attaching tags to toys and books
  • Large zip lock bags to secure small toy pieces or accessories
  • String or zip ties to attach to shoes or toys

Example of a printed tag:

How to Tag Clothing and Shoes

Attach the tag with a safety pin near the upper right side of the garment. All clothing items should be hung with the hook facing left (like a Question Mark ?) Please use safety pins to hang pants. Do not fold them over the hanger.

Ziploc bags are best for shoes. Place the card on the inside of the Ziploc bag, preferrably pinned to the shoes. Securely fasten shoes together (especially if they do not fit in a Ziploc bag) – the best way is to use zip-ties through laces, loops or buckles, since zip-ties cannot be removed without cutting. Even if your shoes fit in a ziploc bag, it is a great idea to use zip-ties as well, in case shoes get taken out of the bag.

Tagging Other Items

Toys, books, videos & small items can be placed in Ziploc bags. The bag’s contents should be thoroughly described on the card. On large items ie: adhere the tag to the item with tape however please make sure to NOT tape over the Barcode.

Important Tagging Details

Minimum item price of $2.00. Only $.50 increments. Items that are priced other than $.50 increments will be sold at the nearest $.50 increment lower than the marked price. (example – $3.75 will be sold for $3.50)

Remember to securely tape or pin your price tag to your items. If they come off your item will not sell and the item will go in the lost and found box. Competitively price your items. PRICE TO SELL! When pricing your items, remember that you are competing with 200 other consignors and their prices. Ask yourself what you would pay for your item.

Normally 25-35% of retail is a good general figure to go by when pricing your items. We’d rather give you a bigger check than a lot of unsold items.

The consignors who make the most at EVERY sale are the ones who price their items a little lower but sell almost all of their items. Think volume !
